Michael Spiby ReleasePosted: 23/09/11Winter is a great time to be locked away in a recording studio, especially if the sparks are flying. Michael Spiby has been sweating it out amongst transformers, valves and hibernating dogs. And electrical leads. Enough leads that you can only vaguely make out the carpet beneath. I made a promise to myself that as soon as Ive finished cooking up the first single Ill untangle the black spaghetti and shave. The first single SoulbrotherTruckin Song is an abstract musical reflection on the life of Australian artist Albert Namatjira. Im obsessed by his journey, his dealings with the redneck ways of white culture and ultimate dislocation from his own traditional culture. Too big a topic for my humble pop song but that was the impetus. The process of recording this album has also been a journey for Spiby to rediscover his voice and connect his soul roots with contemporary writing. Its amazing how hard it can be navigating a way through to a fresh musical outcome. Staying fresh is always the challenge. Thats the fun bit. SoulbrotherTruckin Song is due for release late 2012.
